Many medicinal herbs and plants are finally starting to get the recognition that they deserve. Coleus forskohlii extract is one of them. A prominent component of ayurvedic medicine, the extract has now turned into a favorite for inclusion in HGH supplements.
There are several reasons why opting for a product containing coleus forskohlii extract is a good idea.
What Is Coleus Forskohlii Extract?
Coleus forskohlii extract is derived from the roots of the plant that is a well-known member of the mint family. It can be found in regions of Asia (like India) and subtropical Africa.
For centuries, coleus has been used as an ayurvedic treatment for chest pain, high blood pressure, infections and gastrointestinal problems.
Forskolin – a substance found in the root of the coleus plant is the most powerful active ingredient. Various clinical studies have been carried out to identify all of its medicinal properties. Researchers have already confirmed several of the traditional uses of the extract.
Apart from being recognized for all of its other benefits, forslokin is a potent fat burner. This is the main reason why the substance is often included in the composition of HGH releasers.
While a HGH boost leads to more prominent muscle development, the loss of body fat makes these muscles visible.
Why Coleus Forskohlii Extract Is Used In HGH Supplements?
The forskolin found in the root of the plant isn’t a HGH secretagogue itself. The substance, however, has potent fat burning qualities. A supplement that contains both growth hormone releasers and a fat burner can deliver the most pronounced and diversified bodybuilding benefits.
Apart from being a fat burner, there is some evidence forskolin could act as a testosterone booster.
Researchers believe that forskolin works by increasing the intra-testicular cAMP levels. The testicles play a very important role in the production of testosterone. The increase of cAMP mimics the action of the luteinizing hormone – the one responsible for signaling the beginning of testosterone production.
Forskolin is so effective when it comes to boosting cAMP that it has become the baseline substance against which other natural testosterone releasers get tested.
When it comes to producing an increase in testosterone levels, there are several intriguing experiments.
One of the most prominent was presented in the Obesity Research Journal in 2005. The experiment involved 30 overweight volunteers who took either forskolin or a placebo for a period of 12-weeks.
The aim of the double blind, placebo-controlled experiment was to trace changes in testosterone levels, body fat and metabolic rate.
All of the participants in the experiment had a BMI exceeding 26.
In the end of the experiment, forskolin was identified as the substance driving positive body changes in the obese volunteers. The men experienced a significant reduction in body fat percentage and serum testosterone levels were significantly increased.
When it comes to the weight loss benefits of forskolin, another clinical study was carried out in 2011. It involved 49 volunteers aged 50 to 80, all of them suffering from high blood pressure. The volunteers took either 500 or 700 milligrams of forskolin for a period of two months.
In the end of the experiment, both groups saw a major reduction in blood pressure. The volunteers who were given the lower dose decreased their BMI by 2.6 percent and the ones that were given the higher dose saw a reduction of 2.38 percent.
Increases in the level of good cholesterol were also identified.
Dosage And Side Effects
Coleus forskohlii extract is considered generally safe in healthy individuals. For best results, take the supplement according to manufacturer recommendations. A daily dose of 500 milligrams is considered effective and safe.
There’s some evidence that forskolin could interact with high blood pressure medications, nitrates (medicines that enhance blood flow) and medications that slow down the clotting of blood.
If you’re taking such pharmaceutical products, you will need to consult a physician prior to getting started with a coleus forskohlii extract supplementation program.
